20th Century Origin: Kashmir Material : Papier-mâché Decorated in the traditional naqashi, the plate depicts a vivid vermilion-red ground populated by numerous deer, ibex, gazelles, and other wild animals scattered across a stylized mountainous landscape. Slender conifers, rolling hills, and hanging willow branches create a distinctly Kashmiri setting, evoking the forests and alpine meadows of the Valley. While not as common as chinar leaves, floral sprays, or hunting scenes, such compositions were especially popular because they celebrated Kashmir's natural beauty and provided artists with a miniature-painting format adapted to decorative household objects.
