19th century Origin: Kashmir Provenance: Europe Material: Gilded Copper with polychrome enamel A finely executed example of Kashmiri meenakari metalwork, notable for its exceptionally rich polychrome enamel decoration set within finely delineated gilt scrollwork and harmonious proportions. The enamelwork provides an excellent example of the vibrant colour palette characteristic of historic Kashmiri enamelling traditions. The vase reflects the high level of technical skill achieved by Kashmiri artisans during the flourishing period of decorative arts production in Srinagar. Enamelled metalwork represented one of the most luxurious forms of Kashmiri decorative art. Such vases were produced primarily as display pieces and were often commissioned as diplomatic gifts, presentation objects, or export wares. By the late nineteenth century, Kashmiri enamelling workshops had developed a distinctive regional style combining local floral motifs with Persian-inspired colour schemes and ornament.
