Serving Tray

19th century Origin: Kashmir Material: Gilded Copper with polychrome enamel This tray is notable for the combination of three distinct decorative techniques, engraving, pierced copperwork and enameling, within a single object. Areas of enamel loss and variation in the gilded surface reveal the copper beneath, giving the tray a layered patina that records both its craftsmanship and age. Its pierced floral arabesques introduce lightness and transparency, contrasting with the densely ornamented centre organised around a circular floral medallion. Traces of blue and turquoise enamel, together with the warm gilded copper surface, create a particularly rich interplay of colour and texture. Private collection: Trām and Beyond
