Early 20th century (Late Dogra Period) Origin: Kashmir Material: Copper with tin plating Design: Raz-e-isleem and Panjhaar A Kashmiri samovar distinguished by its almost globular body and densely worked surface. This example is particularly appealing for its compact proportions and unusually dense surface decoration. Unlike its larger counterparts, its rounded body recalls the form of a traditional teapot while retaining the characteristic pierced heating pedestal of the Kashmiri samovar. The dense floral treatment reflects the Kashmiri tradition of kandkari metalwork, in which the surface of copper vessels was transformed through repeated engraving and chasing. Such pieces are important records of Kashmir's historic copper working tradition, where objects of daily hospitality were treated as surfaces for extraordinary decorative craftsmanship.
