19th Century Origin: Kashmir Material: Copper with tin plating and black enamel This finely engraved bowl exemplifies the sophisticated metalworking traditions of the Valley during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. A prominent cartouche beneath the rim bears the inscription “بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ” (Bismillah hir rahman nir Raheem) reflecting the Islamic artistic traditions that influenced Kashmiri decorative arts.
