Late 19th - early 20th century Origin: Kashmir Material: Copper with tin plating and black enamel The Tour is a traditional Kashmiri copper eating bowl used for serving individual portions of food. This example is entirely hand-engraved with a repeating geometric lattice enclosing stylised floral rosettes, creating a rhythmic surface that wraps seamlessly around the vessel. The precision of the pattern reflects the refinement of Kashmiri kandkari (metal engraving), where ornament is built through repetition rather than isolated motifs. Centuries of use have gently softened the engraved surface while allowing a deep patina to settle into the recesses, enriching the contrast between light and shadow. The restrained form of the bowl allows the intricacy of the engraving to remain its defining feature, demonstrating the importance placed on craftsmanship even in the most ordinary household utensils.
