Late 19th - early 20th Century Origin: Kashmir Material: Copper with tin plating and black enamel This finely crafted Kashmiri bowl is adorned with dense geometric and vegetal ornament executed in black engraved enamel over a tinned copper surface. The prominent upper decorative band features the Raz-e-Isleem motif, a classical Islamic pattern composed of interlaced geometry and stylized floral elements. Above and Below, are bands of scrolling vines and rosettes. The precision of engraving and layered banded composition exemplify the high level of metal craftsmanship practiced in Kashmir during the late 19th century under strong Persianate artistic influence.
